It rained for the entire 2 hour drive to gorgeous Rixey Manor in Culpeper, VA last Saturday. But besides stopping to buy 8 clear umbrellas just in case it was pouring during wedding party photos, I had no concerns at all about a rainy wedding day. In fact, ever since attending a rainy wedding 15 years ago where the Hawaiian couple explained that rain on a wedding day is seen as a blessing, I’ve always thought there was something especially romantic about sprinkles – and even showers – at a wedding. With that said, it was awfully convenient that the rain stopped just in time for family, wedding party, and bride & groom photos! Although Marie and Russell were understandably disappointed not to hold their ceremony outside, the owner and staff at Rixey Manor did an absolutely amazing job turning the reception ballroom into a perfectly gorgeous ceremony site. I’m not sure if it was raining outside during the reception, but it certainly wasn’t dry, as Russell shed a few sweet, beautiful tears. It was a lovely ceremony and a gorgeous day – a true joy and honor to be there. I hope you enjoy the story as much as we did.
Wedding photos were a hoot, thanks to all the awesome kids running around. Everyone was enjoying a little time out in the fresh air!!
When you have that one groomsman that just wants to bear hug the groom, sometimes you gotta let him unleash!!!
Russell noticed that it was starting to sprinkle again – so Susie and I kicked it into hyperdrive for these photos!!!
Horses. Sigh. Horses! Rixey Manor – we want to come back!
