Howard County Conservancy Engagement Photos: Kelly and Collin

October 17, 2018

At one point during Kelly and Collin’s session at the Howard County Conservancy, I saw some weathered Adirondack chairs scattered around what must have been a campfire at some point. I loved the chairs, but not the light or the background, so I grabbed one and carried it around a big, sloppy puddle of mud and halfway up a hill to a picturesque thicket of tall grasses. Then I began sweating profusely, which was very embarrassing. In retrospect, I think I was just trying to introduce *some* challenge into this session. Kelly and Collin were so incredibly easy to photograph, it just felt like I should be working a little harder!!!

For one thing, Kelly and Collin are just as sweet and engaging as can be. Collin told us the first thing he noticed about Kelly was that she was the most pleasant person he had ever met. Susie and I definitely shared that first impression of Kelly! Full of smiles and conversation, she happily traipsed around the wet, grassy conservancy in some pretty tall heels while we tried to find the bridge that Collin had crossed on his long-distance runs through the property. Also, when some of us get nervous in photos (which I still do, seven years into being a professional photographer), we tend to clam up, and get generally stiff and awkward. But when Kelly got nervous at the very beginning of the shoot, she just went off into gales of the most adorable, photogenic laugh we’ve ever seen. Meanwhile, Collin calls himself a curmudgeon, but all we saw was a guy that loved to see Kelly laugh. He also clearly loves to make Kelly happy, even if it means posing good-naturedly in all these engagement photos. 😉 If it wasn’t his dream way to spend the afternoon, we certainly wouldn’t have known it. He was a real team player, you could say. In fact, when we weren’t quite sure where we were or what we were looking for, he happily went ahead and scouted out the spot – which turned out to be absolutely perfect. In previous trips to the conservancy, we’ve stayed around the more manicured parts, but this… this was ideal. Just an afternoon out in the woods and the grasses with two pleasant people. What could be more fun?! Kelly and Collin, we can’t wait until next April!! We have nothing but excitement for your wedding day!!!
