It takes an incredibly special couple to get married within the grandeur of Washington National Cathedral yet host a wedding characterized by warmth and intimacy. Virginia and Alex, along with their families, managed just that.
A few things I’ll never forget about Virginia and Alex’s wedding:
It sounds sappy (most of what I write does!), but I will always remember Virginia’s smile. When I first met her, I thought Virginia’s most striking characteristic was her eyes, which are a stunning, piercing blue. But instead, it’s her smile, which is tender, gracious, and genuine. Virginia’s smile fits her… and it fits Alex, also, who is equally as warm, kind, and thoughtful as Virginia.
I will remember that every single vendor commented on how sweet Virgina and Alex are and how much they enjoyed working with them. It was like a meeting of the Virginia and Alex Fan Club in the room where we ate dinner! This is truly remarkable and quite rare. It’s a testament to Virginia and Alex’s talent for making those around them feel valued and appreciated. This was also why their wedding day never felt rushed. When minor delays cropped up, Virginia and Alex simply approached the delay as more time to enjoy one another and those around them. I admired this so much!
Finally… this may sound odd, but I will remember the dads. Now, don’t get me wrong – these moms were *amazing*!! However, it’s normal for mothers to be excited and involved (and we love when they are!), but sometimes we’re not sure who the fathers are until family photos. Not these dads!!! They were available, excited, helpful, and every bit as kind and gracious as Virginia and Alex. I’ll never forget Virginia’s father sitting transfixed during the ceremony, gazing at his little girl with tears of love and happiness on his face. I won’t forget Alex’s dad offering to hold Virginia’s train as we crossed the street. What a sweet and involved father-in-law!!! These are two wonderful fathers, and with their equally wonderful wives, they raised remarkable children.
There’s so much more I could say, but let’s be real: you came here to see the pictures!!! So, I’ll just sum it up with this:
We were so honored and grateful to document this wedding and we hope this small sample of photos tells the wonderful story of their day.
This bag generated an enormous level of excitement in the room. 🙂
First look with her dad first. Love, love, love.
Alex’s dad was snapping photos too. Loved it!
Not our best photo of the day, but this thumbs up just made me SO HAPPY I had to post it. I just had to. To the girl giving the thumbs up: You are a photographer’s dream. From this moment, to the speeches, to the dance floor, your reactions were THE BEST!!
Alex’s sister checking on him as Virginia approaches. The family bonds here were strong.
Those cookies on the bottom right are just exquisite!!
ALL the speeches were phenomenal!!
